Whose responsibility is it ???

Hi Everyone,

Thank you very much for appreciating our efforts and logging onto the website on the first day of its release. Yesterday a blog from a fellow alumnus Kumar Pratyush (Batch 2008) kept me thinking on a very fundamental question: whose responsibility is to connect an institution’s alumni and why over a period of time alumni loose connect with the college. Is it the university administration responsible for the same? .I partly disagree. Though I agree that administration plays a very important role in ensuring the alumni gets regular updates about the college initiatives. But to connect alumni and make them feel at home after leaving college is the equal responsibility of alumni and students themselves.

To make my point more clear I would like to throw in some facts:

  1. All great alumni networks around the world were initially started by enthusiasts like you and me who felt the need to connect people for benefit of both the institution and individual.
  2. We as alumni are the face of the institution to the corporate world and it is our prime duty/ responsibility to ensure that companies understand the institution’s values and appreciate the same as we do. Institutes like IIT(s) and IIM(s) have got so much recognition in the corporate world because of strong integrated alumni network and alumni backing their institute from time to time.
  3. Also the students currently studying in the institution/ college play a very important role in inviting alumni from time to time on various institution’s events/ activities so that the alumni is always connected.

Thus it would be unfair to say that administration is responsible for the alumni connect. We as a responsible alumni/ student have to ensure that legacy of this great institute of national importance is maintained and we do not lose the touch with time.

In the last I would like to sum up my thoughts with a very famous Charles Darwin saying “It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is the most adaptable to change.”

It is very essential that in upcoming challenging times we all adapt well and ensure each other’s success.
